We are excited to bring you some of the country's top jazz educators and performers. This big band camp is designed for enthusiastic instrumental students, grades 7 and older, to learn more about jazz style, improvisation, and performance. The camp is open to middle school, high school, and college students, along with interested community members with at least one year of study on their instrument. We have updated our programming and look forward to an exciting week.

The week will include opportunities to work with professional musicians from across the country, including Grammy winning trumpet artist, Bijon Watson. Mary Fettig, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and the first female member of the Stan Kenton Orchestra, and Dr. Chris Azzara, Eisenhart Professor of Music Teaching & Learning at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY.

For details, including tuition rates and scholarship information please visit www.stchas.edu/sccjazzcamp.

There will also be an educator track for area music educators.

Dr. Christopher Azzara, the Eisenhart Professor of Music Teaching & Learning at the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, will lead this summer's Jazz Camp-Educator Track program. Azzara's musical practice focuses on the role of improvisation and creativity, whether in jazz or classical styles.

Participating educators will observe Dr. Azzara instructing SCC Jazz Camp students in two 75-minute sessions, followed by two 75-minute faculty Q&A sessions addressing specific pedagogical ideas that he uses in his groundbreaking teaching. Participants can earn up to five professional development hours (with district approval).

Participants are also welcome to attend all afternoon concerts by the SCC Jazz Camp Faculty each afternoon.
