Nature Art: Knitting with Natural Dyes

*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 02/27/2026
Explore the colors of the natural world in this hands-on dyeing and knitting workshop. We will work in groups to mordant and dye yarn with goldenrod flower heads, paw paw leaves, and pokeweed berries. Then while the dyes are simmering, we will learn about these amazing plants, foraging, the process of creating dyes from nature, and the basics of knitting.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
This beginner-friendly program is a great introduction to both knitting and natural dye techniques. Knitting needles and yarn will be provided for shared use. Participants are welcome to bring their own knitting supplies or projects to work on while the dyes are boiling; however, due to material limitations, only the provided yarn will be dyed. Each participant will get to take home a small sample of the dyed yarn. Note: This program involves hot equipment and strong smells. Wayne Lange
