Abstract Portraiture is a class that aims to combine traditional practices of perceptual portraiture with contemporary non-objective mark making techniques.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Students will alternate between drawing/painting from observational imagery and imaginative abstraction. The resulting artwork will create a hybrid visual language that will acknowledge both representational and concrete painting. The class will start with gesture drawing, where students will learn the basics of contour observational drawing and chiaroscuro. Students will then learn to integrate color value through acrylic painting into their portraits, one project starting from observation and one starting from non-objective imagination. The class will end with a final project that will encourage students to select their own media and inspiration.
