Who wouldn't get excited upon hearing that they're about to embark on a "space mission"?

For space enthusiasts, the Challenger Learning Center provides hands-on, realistic, simulated space missions for people ages six and up (Public missions are geared towards those 11 and up). The activities here are unique in that they encourage participants to work together and perform activities similar to astronauts, scientists and engineers.

Reservations are required for all public missions, which are held intermittently throughout the year - check the website for schedules. Missions can also be booked for school and scout groups, birthday parties, and corporate team-building sessions.

In the summer, the center's one-week and two-week day camps allow children to engage in all sorts of space-themed activities, including hands-on workshops, simulated missions, and field trips. The camps are open to kids between first and eighth grades.

message from Challenger Learning Center:

School groups are welcome to schedule missions for up to 32 students in Grades 5-8 and up to 54 students in Grades K-4. The program includes pre-mission training for teachers, which they will leave with a curriculum aligned with Missouri and Illinois state education standards, a mission where students are divided into teams that take turns working together as a space crew and mission control, and post-mission activities where students can discuss and analyze the results of their missions.

Public missions run on selected Saturdays from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Our facilities allow guests take voyages to the moon, Mars, and even to Earth's orbit where a comet awaits. Public missions not only give an exciting example of life in space, but encourage team building and cooperation between participants. Participants must reserve a spot in a public mission before the mission day. Private missions are available to groups of 16-30 by reservation.
